The government has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew in Trans Mara East and Trans Mara South sub-counties of Narok County following violent clashes that have claimed at least seven lives and left more than 120 houses torched.

In a statement issued on Saturday, December 20, the Deputy Inspectors General of Police, Eliud Lagat and Gilbert Masengeli, announced that the affected areas have been officially declared security-disturbed and dangerous. The curfew, which takes effect immediately, will run from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am until further notice.

The decision follows a security assessment conducted earlier in the day, led by the two deputy police chiefs alongside senior officials from the Ministry of Interior and National Administration. Authorities said the assessment revealed a volatile situation marked by retaliatory attacks, destruction of property, and heightened tension among local communities.

Security agencies have since been deployed to the region to restore calm, protect lives and property, and prevent further escalation of violence. Residents have been urged to cooperate with law enforcement officers, adhere strictly to the curfew regulations, and avoid actions that could undermine peace efforts.

The government reiterated its commitment to stabilizing the region and warned that individuals found violating the curfew or engaging in criminal activities will face stern legal action as security operations continue.
