Former United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Cleophas Malala has reignited political debate after alleging that Suna East MP Junet Mohamed secretly worked with President William Ruto during the 2022 General Election.

Malala claimed Junet acted as a mole within the Azimio la Umoja coalition, echoing remarks previously made by Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna.

Speaking in an interview, Malala alleged that Junet supplied UDA with sensitive information from within ODM, including details about party agents deployed across the country. “We even had the full list of ODM agents nationwide. We knew who would be where and at what time because of this single traitor called Junet Mohamed,” Malala claimed. He further alleged that Junet had begun betraying Raila Odinga long before his death and is now at odds with the Odinga family.

Malala went on to allege that Junet frequently held secret meetings with William Ruto during the campaign period. “Junet Mohamed used to come at night to see William Ruto. He told us everything about Raila’s agents,” he said, without providing documentary evidence to support the claims.

The remarks drew sharp reactions from key political figures. Raila Odinga’s chief agent during the 2022 election, Saitabao Ole Kanchory, appeared to back Malala’s claims, warning Junet to remain silent. “Receipts are coming fast and furious. Junet Escariot must keep quiet for his own sake. He has already caused enough damage,” Kanchory said, accusing the MP of enriching himself as a broker and traitor.

However, Kapsaret MP Oscar Sudi dismissed Malala’s allegations, accusing him of fabricating claims to deflect from his own political failures. “Malala, leave those behaviors. It is bad manners to make up stories. Everyone knows Junet was one of the people who strongly opposed Ruto,” Sudi said.

The controversy comes weeks after ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna accused Minority leader Junet Mohamed of misappropriating millions of shillings meant for ODM agents during the 2022 polls, deepening divisions within the party as internal tensions continue to spill into the public arena.
