Veteran Western Kenya politician Cyrus Jirongo has died following a grisly road accident while driving to his rural home.

According to close sources privy to the information, the former KANU bigwig passed away on Saturday morning at around 3 AM, after being involved in the ugly road crash.

The crash is said to have occurred at the Karai area of Naivasha, along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway, involving his vehicle and a 45-seater passenger bus.

The source explained that the politician-cum-businessman died on the spot before the police ferried his body to the nearby hospital.

By the time of going to the press, no family member had released an official statement to confirm the reports.

Jirongo is among the early crop of young political figures in the country who were horned sharp in the Nyayo era. Together with the current head of State, they successfully ran the  Youth for KANU 92 for the then president Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi.

The two would also end up vying young for the Parliamentary seats in their various constituencies and won.

In Western part of the country where Jirongo hails from, he had maintained his political popularity having been recognized as the wealthiest figure from Luhya land.

Jirongo, the famous 500 Kenya Shillings, is mostly attributed to him as he used to dish the notes out to KANU supporters during and even after every campaigns.
