Former Mumias East Member of Parliament Benjamin Washiali has officially declared his return to Mumias East politics.

Speaking to hundreds of supporters gathered at Shianda Market on Sunday afternoon, Washiali said he is back to continue the work he started four years ago.

“God willing, in 2027, expect to see my photo on the ballot. Some people have asked what I left in Parliament that makes me think I should return. I want to tell them that we have incomplete infrastructure in this area, which I must finish for my people before I permanently step away,” he said.

The politician did not contest in the previous general election, allowing Peter Kalerwa Salasya to win the Mumias East seat. With Washiali now returning to the political scene, there is a possibility he could challenge the incumbent – provided he comes up with a new strategy.

Both politicians remain popular among locals, making the upcoming general election one to watch.
