Ex-Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has intensified efforts to consolidate political support in the Mt. Kenya region by reaching out to Kenyans living in the diaspora, positioning them as a key pillar in his wider mobilisation strategy both at home and abroad.
Gachagua on Friday hosted members of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) Diaspora Chapter for a Christmas engagement, describing the meeting as part of a deliberate push to unite and energise Mt. Kenya communities beyond Kenya’s borders. The engagement brought together Kenyans who had returned home for the festive season from various parts of the world.
During the meeting, the impeached Deputy President thanked the diaspora team for hosting him in the United States in July and August, where he held a series of engagements with Kenyans living and working abroad. He said the interactions had strengthened political links between the region and its overseas communities, while amplifying the party’s message internationally.
Diaspora leaders briefed Gachagua on the rapid growth of DCP chapters across different countries, noting increased interest among Kenyans abroad in domestic politics and regional leadership. In return, Gachagua outlined the party’s recent local successes, citing wins in by-elections in Kakamega, Narok and Nairobi City County as evidence of DCP’s growing national footprint.
“They briefed me on the growth of the various DCP chapters across the World as I took them through our success in marketing our party – DCP, locally as clearly depicted by our wins in the recent by by-elections in Kakamega, Narok and in the Nairobi City County”.
The DCP Party leader said the gains demonstrated that Mt. Kenya’s political influence could be strengthened through strategic alliances beyond the region, including the diaspora vote and networks.
Plans are already underway for Gachagua’s visits to other continents next year, where he is expected to launch satellite offices and further popularise DCP among Kenyans abroad, as he seeks to galvanise Mt. Kenya support locally and globally ahead of future political contests.
