Former Vihiga County Senator George Khaniri has confirmed that the final send-off of businessman Cyrus Jirongo was conducted in accordance with Tiriki cultural traditions.

Speaking during the burial service of the late Jirongo on December 30, Khaniri issued a stern warning to anyone who may have played a role in Jirongo’s death, saying they would never know peace.

“Don’t just say ‘torch.’ We are Tiriki, and we have already performed everything required by our culture. If you know you had a hand in this death, be ready for the consequences,” Khaniri said.

Several leaders present at the ceremony had earlier urged the family to follow traditional practices to invoke punishment on those allegedly involved in the killing of Mr. Jirongo.

Conflicting findings have emerged regarding the circumstances surrounding Jirongo’s death. Initial government investigations concluded that he died in a road accident. However, privately commissioned investigations claimed that Jirongo was abducted, tortured, and killed elsewhere before the perpetrators – acting under instructions – allegedly staged an accident along the busy Nairobi–Nakuru Highway.

Jirongo was laid to rest at his Lumakanda home in Lugari, Kakamega County.
