Government of Kenya has assured Ugandan government of full access to the Mombasa Port hence downplaying remarks made by President Yoweri Museveni that Port issue could soon trigger tension between the two nations.
In a statement issued today, Monday, from Nairobi, Prime Cabinet Secretary Mr. Musalia Mudavadi detailed that there is no way Kenya would block landlocked nations like Uganda from accessing the Port because that would go against the East Africa protocol.
The government also wondered of what value would it be to block Uganda from trading at the Port because it is only through trading activities that Kenya could earn revenues in taxes etc.
Mr. Mudavadi added that the remarks made by the head of State of Uganda were misleading and unnecessary for the sake of the long-standing existing relationship and neighbourhood between the two East Africa countries that have coexisted for many years.
The PCS was making the confirmation to Uganda just days after PS for Foreign Affair Korir Sing’oei, days ago, urged Kenyans not to be worried by the remarks made Ugandan leaders because they had no weight in it and lacked any significance.
He added that the Ugandan president was whipping emotions in Uganda; what politicians in Uganda are used to anytime they are heading to an election.
Singoei noted that these are remarks particularly made to assure their supporters of protection what doesn’t have to worry any Kenyan.
President Museveni of Uganda while addressing in a campaign rally, recently, claimed that the Indian Ocean was a Ugandan property and that they will reclaim it by force.
He went overboard mentioning that should Kenya attempt to resist, Ugandan army will have to be ordered to apply both force and war to take it over.
His son, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has also been issuing similar threats to Kenya claiming that, using his army, he can take over Nairobi in just ten minutes.
