Photos released by the government have revealed plans for a new, modern market at Gikomba, following the overnight demolition of sections of the market after a 30-day eviction notice.
President William Ruto announced that the government has set aside KSh 3 billion for the project, stating, “We are going to build a modern market – one that you have not seen.”
He emphasized the market’s national significance, saying, “We must pay attention to Gikomba market because it is a national market serving a national traders network around Kenya.”
The President highlighted the market’s integral role as a supplier for businesses across the country, underlining the need for its modernization.
