SportPesa mega jackpot winner Samuel Abisai has made headlines again after appearing on the popular Mic Chec Podcast, years after his historic win. His latest revelations shed light on how he managed to protect his KSh 221 million fortune at a time when many lottery winners often lose everything within a few years.

In the interview hosted by Mwafreeka, Abisai dismissed rumours suggesting he had gone broke. He confidently stated that he still has the full amount he won in 2017 and explained the strategic financial decisions that helped him avoid the common pitfalls that leave many jackpot winners struggling.

Has Barely Touched his Millions

Abisai confirmed that he still has the full amount he won in 2017. Contrary to widespread assumptions, he revealed that he hardly spends the principal amount.

Immediately after receiving his winnings, he made what he calls the smartest financial decision of his life: he deposited the entire KSh 221 million into a fixed-deposit account earning 16% interest monthly.

“I think after winning the money, the only two projects I accomplished were buying a modest car and a home in Nairobi,” he said.

Surprisingly, he clarified that even these purchases were not made from the jackpot itself.

“The car and the house – I bought them using the interest, not the actual SportPesa money,” he told the podcast.

“It’s Hard to Run Broke With That Kind of Interest”

Abisai explained that the monthly interest generated from the fixed-deposit investment is substantial and runs into millions – so significant that running broke is nearly impossible.

He joked that even someone with a ‘wild lifestyle’ would struggle to exhaust the amount of passive income the account produces.

He Didn’t Rush Into Spending his Millions

Although he received the money in 2017, Abisai shared that he only “tested” the winnings in 2018 after taking time to settle and think clearly. To avoid impulsive decisions, he booked a fully paid holiday in Holland shortly after depositing the money.

He said the break helped him slow down, avoid pressure, and maintain a normal lifestyle despite becoming an overnight millionaire.

A Millionaire Who Resolved to Stay Focused

Eight years later, Abisai says he has diversified his investments while maintaining a simple lifestyle. His approach – discipline, delayed gratification, and long-term planning – has kept him financially secure long after most jackpot winners fade into hardship.

His story continues to inspire Kenyans on responsible money management, especially during sudden financial windfalls.
