Liverpool Held by Forest as Newcastle Deepen Tottenham Crisis in Saturday Football

Liverpool were forced to settle for a 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest at Anfield on Saturday, while Tottenham Hotspur suffered another damaging defeat after losing 2-0 at home to Newcastle United.

The results provided plenty of drama across the Premier League, with Liverpool twice coming from behind to rescue a point. Nottingham Forest took the lead in the 24th minute through Dan Ndoye before Alexander Isak restored parity for the hosts in the second half.

Forest regained the advantage when Morgan Gibbs-White converted a penalty in the 70th minute. Liverpool, however, refused to give up and summer signing Víctor Muñoz struck in the 82nd minute to secure a point for Andoni Iraola’s side.

The draw means Liverpool are still searching for their first Premier League victory of the season after opening the campaign with two consecutive draws. Iraola’s team had also surrendered a lead in their opening match against Newcastle before earning a late point.

Newcastle pile more pressure on Tottenham

At the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Newcastle United recorded a convincing 2-0 victory over Tottenham.

The match was goalless at half-time, but Newcastle eventually broke the deadlock through Anthony Elanga in the 62nd minute. Yoane Wissa then doubled the visitors’ advantage 11 minutes later to secure Newcastle’s first league win of the campaign.

The defeat leaves Tottenham with serious concerns after two league matches. Spurs have yet to score a Premier League goal this season and have now suffered consecutive defeats.

Other Premier League results

Earlier Saturday, Bournemouth drew 1-1 with Everton, while Hull City defeated Coventry City 1-0 thanks to a late Liam Millar goal.

The day’s results underline how unpredictable the early stages of the new Premier League season have been, with several established clubs already dropping valuable points.

For Liverpool, the immediate challenge will be turning promising attacking performances into victories. For Tottenham, manager Roberto De Zerbi will be under increasing pressure to find both goals and points before the difficult start becomes a bigger problem.
