The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala has taken a direct swipe at COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli following the party’s victory in the recently concluded Kisa East Ward by-election.

Speaking to supporters in Kisa East over the weekend, Malala celebrated the win while mocking Atwoli, saying the veteran trade unionist will now be “governed” by a Member of County Assembly (MCA) elected on a DCP ticket – a new political party associated with impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua(Wamunyoro).

Malala emphasized that Kisa East, where the DCP clinched the County Assembly seat, is Atwoli’s home area. He noted that the COTU boss hails from the same Ward and would, therefore, be under the representation of newly-elected DCP MCA, Aduda Okwiri.

“I want to remind the country because many people may not know where Kisa East is located. Kisa East is in Khwisero Constituency in Kakamega County, where Mr. Francis Atwoli comes from. In fact, Atwoli’s village home is in Kisa East, and that is where he will now be ruled by a DCP Party MCA,” Malala entertained cheerful supporters.

The DCP’s Aduda Okwiri secured the seat with 1,952 votes, beating MDG candidate Joel Ongoro, who came in second with 1,541 votes. The by-election drew significant interest as various parties tested their grassroots strength ahead of the next general election scheduled 2027.
