The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has appointed Moses Ledama Sunkuli as its Acting Chief Executive Officer, barely 48 hours after the resignation of Marjan Hussein.

In a statement issued on Thursday, February 5, IEBC confirmed that Sunkuli will also serve as Acting Commission Secretary, roles previously held by Marjan. The appointment takes effect immediately and will run for at least six months or until a substantive CEO is recruited.

Sunkuli previously served as IEBC’s Director of Electoral Operations and brings nearly a decade of experience within the commission, including serving as a returning officer during the 2017 General Election.

As acting CEO, he becomes the commission’s administrative and accounting head, overseeing daily operations, staff management, and election preparations. His first major test will be overseeing upcoming MCA by-elections amid heightened political scrutiny.
