Citizen Engagement and Customer Service official at Nairobi County Government Mr. Geoffrey Mosiria has, for the first time, shared the main reason his boss Johnson Sakaja demoted him weeks ago.

Speaking on Monday, December 1, Mosiria detailed that his demotion wasn’t a surprise to him because he had started seeing signs earlier.

He revealed that this was as a result of his stern enforcement measures that he said did not align with the interests of cartels and the ‘untouchables’ around the city.

Mr. Mosiria added that a few well-connected developers and grabbers did not like his resolve to interfere with what they were doing including erecting flats and clubs on riparian land.

“I indeed trampled on those who are untouchable, I trampled on the untouchables until some of them got irritated by me, but I do not fear man, I only fear God, who is powerful,” Mosiria revealed in the interview.

The city official further pointed out how such characters kept pushing the governor to remove him from office. He added that they used both money and threats to have their say and way.

However, he(Mosiria) shared that this demotion won’t stop his noble course to save Nairobi from collapsing.

“Some people were building on the river, and many of them had big clubs that were shouting at the people. We went and stopped them, and before I was taken away, I remember stopping a big club that had not been touched”.

The decision to close unlawful clubs and private developments, according to the official, was informed by increased public concerns and not what some would describe as ‘political stunts’.
