The Ngong Road-Naivasha Road flyover near Junction Mall is steadily taking shape, with recent site photos indicating significant progress on the erection of steel structures. The project, being implemented by the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA), is designed to ease persistent traffic congestion along one of Nairobi’s busiest transport corridors.

The flyover will comprise a four-lane elevated roadway, complete with dedicated pedestrian walkways and cycling lanes, aimed at improving both traffic flow and non-motorised transport safety. Latest images from the site show that the steel superstructure of the viaduct is nearly complete, marking a major milestone in the project’s construction timeline.

With the steel framework largely in place, attention will now shift to casting the concrete deck and carrying out associated road works. These developments point to a possible completion and handover of the flyover section by June or July 2026, subject to continued progress as scheduled.

The project is being financed through a Ksh 3.58 billion concessional loan from the Spanish Corporate International Fund (FIEM), with construction works being undertaken by a Spanish contractor. The same firm previously delivered the Thika Superhighway flyover, which significantly improved traffic flow along the northern corridor.

According to officials, the flyover forms part of the broader Ngong Road-Naivasha Road corridor upgrade and KURA’s long-term strategy to modernise Nairobi’s urban transport network. To minimise disruption to motorists and nearby businesses, much of the construction work is being carried out during night hours.
