ODM party leader Oburu Odinga has been crowned the official leader of the Luo community in a culturally significant ceremony held in Migori County.
The coronation took place during the 5th Luo Piny Festival on December 17, 2025, an annual event that brings together Luo elders, cultural leaders, and community members from across the region.
The ceremony was attended by President William Ruto, underscoring the national significance of the event and its broader political and cultural implications.
Several other political leaders, traditional elders, and dignitaries were also present, lending weight to the occasion and highlighting its importance within the Luo community.
Oburu Odinga is the elder brother of the late former prime minister Raila Odinga, whose influence and leadership shaped national politics for decades.
He assumes the position previously held by his brother until his death in October, marking a symbolic continuation of leadership within the Odinga family and reaffirming the role of cultural authority in guiding the community.
