The Linda Mwananchi movement has accused a section of political leaders from Luo Nyanza aligned with the broad-based government of plotting to disrupt its planned rally in Homa Bay County.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, Embakasi East Member of Parliament #Babu Owino alleged that Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga had been holding secret meetings to mobilise individuals to interfere with the Linda Mwananchi rally scheduled for August 16.

According to Owino, #Wanga was presenting herself publicly as a leader committed to peace while allegedly coordinating plans behind the scenes to intimidate members of the opposition outfit.

“I have heard Gladys Wanga purport to welcome us and pretend to preach peace for us, but we want Kenya to know that we are aware. We have been tipped about what is going on behind the scenes,” Owino said.

“The plan is that Gladys Wanga meets goons at night – she has already done that – and during the day she comes out pretending to welcome us,” he added.

Despite the alleged threats, Owino maintained that the Linda Mwananchi team would proceed with its Homa Bay visit as planned. He warned that anyone recruited to disrupt the gathering would be met with resistance, adding that the movement was prepared to respond to any security challenges that might arise.

The MP also called on security agencies to remain vigilant and ensure law and order during the planned event.

Owino’s remarks came a day after Governor Wanga toured parts of Homa Bay County, where she publicly welcomed the planned visit by the Linda Mwananchi team. During her address, she appealed to residents, particularly young people, to remain peaceful and allow leaders from all political affiliations to campaign and hold meetings freely in the county.
