President William Ruto today tried to blame journalists for reporting what his Ugandan counterpart, Yoweri Museveni, said about seizing the Indian Ocean territories.
Dr. Ruto, while speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony for the Devki Mega Steel Project in Osukuru, Tororo District in Uganda, termed what was reported in the media as a wishful creation by journalists and naysayers and that what President Kaguta Museveni stated was something else.
Ruto noted that Kenya and Uganda together with other East Africa nations undertake to keep working together to facilitate quality and transnational investments that will further Africa’s industrialisation ambition, boost intra-African trade and drive sustainable development
“This transformative investment will not only serve Uganda but also Kenya, and the region. Sitting on more than 400 acres of land, the multi-billion facility will cut our import bills, create jobs, build new value chains and expand opportunities,” said President Ruto on the launched Devki Mega Steel Project in Osukuru, Tororo on Sunday November 23.
Addressing from Uganda where he had flown to together with Asian businessman Devki who has many industries in Kenya, Ruto defended Museveni saying the two nations will never fall apart as some media has been reporting.
“I know journalists tried to create an impression that Uganda needs to access the sea by all means. Let me assure the naysayers. Uganda can access the sea through Kenya”.
The sale of Kenya Pipeline today has seen a section of leaders among them the vocal Kakamega County Senator Bonni Khalwale poke holes in the move.
“How now! KPC is a strategic profit making state corporation with serious national security operational tenets. Recently the CS Energy, Opiyo Wandayi, appeared before the Senate Committee on Energy and received our objection to the government privatisation of KPC,” he reacted.
A week ago, controversial Uganda head of State threatened in invade Kenya and take over the Indian Ocean waters saying it belonged to Uganda. He added that if this territory is not handed over to him, he will break into war to fight for it.
