President William Ruto has directed all learners across the country to report to school starting Friday, regardless of financial constraints or lack of school uniforms.

Speaking in Meru during the disbursement of funds under the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) business support programme, the President ordered all provincial administration officers to ensure the directive is fully implemented so that no child is left out of school during the first term.

President Ruto emphasized that the government has already disbursed Ksh 44 billion in capitation funds to support learning, insisting that no learner should be denied access to education due to lack of school fees.

“There is sufficient money for our children to be taught in the first term. Every child, with or without uniform or school fees, must report to school tomorrow morning,” the Head of State said. He further directed chiefs, assistant chiefs, and other provincial administrators to ensure full compliance with the order.

The President also noted that the transition from primary school to junior secondary school under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) should not be disrupted by financial challenges, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to a smooth transition.

As of Wednesday, January 22, the Ministry of Education reported that over 930,000 learners out of the 1.13 million who sat the 2025 Kenya Junior Secondary Education Assessment (KJSEA) had reported to school.

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba said the ministry has deployed teams countrywide to trace and facilitate the return of learners who are yet to report.
