The level of hopelessness in Kenya is now on a worrying scale as young men now only think of gambling to make ends meet.
Latest statistics indicate that every month, jobless young men and women would do whatever they can so as to spend money on gambling games – many a times, risky gambling activities that would leave them twice or three times poorer than they were.
That averagely, these individuals each spend about Ksh 2,800 on betting activities that don’t usually favour them.
“There is a deeper problem in the society and it is tied to unemployment, where people feel that the quickest way to make money is through gambling,” Ken Gichinga, an expert shared on NTV morning session.
These men and women believe that the easiest way to earn a living is by betting and also this culture has been cultivated more by the fact that they have no jobs to help them earn a daily portion despite some having families to take care of.
And it’s for this reason that investors in the betting industry keep launching betting and gambling sites every day to take advantage of the helpless ready local market.
Every day, new betting companies are being opened online to take fees and and free money from these jobless job seekers.
Most of these companies are, sadly, owned by influential rich politicians most who hold high offices in the government. They are above the law and all the laws make in Parliament or through court orders always favour them because of the positions they hold.
Locally, Aviator gambling game has led to so many deaths cases; but no one wants to talk about it because the owners are well-connected and powerful men at the top.
