Ugandan opposition leader, Mr. Kizza Besigye, has spent a whole year behind bars after President Yoweri Museveni’s administration abducted him in Nairobi on his way to a meeting in Kenya.

According to wife, Winnie Byanyima, it is saddening to see his lovely husband spent years behind bars for fighting for the democracy of the country he was born in.

In her emotional statement and plea released on Sunday November 16, Winnie lamented on how her husband was wasting his old age years behind bars just because the current regime think he sides with the people what democracy requires.

“It is now one year since my spouse, Dr. Kizza Besigye, was abducted from Nairobi and taken to prison in Uganda. A year later, the case against him has not moved in court. Endless injustice: military detention, illegal confinement, denial of bail. A justice system captured,” Winnie stated.

Besigye’s wife went on to detail that, through it all, her man has never wavered. His commitment to fight for democracy, human rights, and equality has never been shaken.

“No amount of imprisonment or persecution can make him abandon the struggle for a free Uganda,” she added.

Besigye’s owes with Museveni’s regime started way back immediately after Museveni took charge of the country many years ago. It is rumoured that the two have had a poor relationship not just because of politics. Their frosty friendship stretches outside just politics.

Additionally, Museveni always feels threatened with the politics of Besigye ,and, would always want him behind bars anytime Uganda is heading to an election.
