President William Ruto has unveiled a major tax relief plan aimed at easing the financial burden on low-income earners.
The announcement, made today, includes measures to exempt more than 1.5 million workers earning KSh 30,000 or less per month from paying income tax.
Additionally, around 500,000 employees earning up to KSh 50,000 will see their tax rate reduced from 30% to 25%.
However, the choice of venue for the announcement has drawn criticism from some Kenyans. Many questioned why such a significant policy update was made during a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party event rather than in a formal setting, such as Statehouse.
“What does reducing taxes have to do with UDA pictures,” activist cop Shakur reacted to Ruto’s post.
The President, in this announcement, emphasized that these measures are part of the government’s efforts to reduce the cost of living for ordinary citizens, signaling a focus on providing immediate financial relief to those most affected by economic pressures.
