Claims of state-linked intimidation have emerged after photojournalist and youth activist Allans Ademba reported the sudden suspension of his social media accounts, sparking fresh concerns over digital freedoms and political expression in Kenya.

In a statement shared on X on March 29, Ademba posted screenshots indicating that his TikTok account – previously attracting millions of views and thousands of followers – had been taken down. He said he discovered the suspension at around 1 a.m., describing it as part of a broader pattern of intimidation.

“This is just one of the threats after the government released its state machinery on me,” he wrote.

According to the notice he shared, the platform informed him that his account had been suspended, giving him a 180-day window to appeal before permanent deactivation.

Ademba also disclosed performance metrics from his account, showing significant engagement, including 18 million post views, over 300,000 profile visits, and millions of interactions in likes, comments, and shares. He believes the reach of his content may have made him a target.

The activist further alleged ongoing intimidation, claiming there are additional pressures he has not made public due to fears for his safety.

“I cannot reveal everything. My life could be at risk,” he stated.

He added that he has since switched to using a basic mobile phone to reduce digital exposure.

Ademba is the founder of the Niko Kadi initiative, launched in early 2026 to mobilize youth voter registration ahead of the 2027 General Election.
