Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has sharply responded to Winnie Odinga after she accused him of dragging politics into the National Treasury.

The tensions escalated after Winnie, who was speaking in Kisii County, publicly criticised Mbadi over his recent political remarks, cautioning him against turning the Treasury into what she described as “a political office.”

In clips that have since gone viral online, Winnie accused the CS of blending government responsibilities with ODM succession politics, comments that quickly ignited intense debate across social media platforms.

Mbadi, however, moved swiftly to defend himself.

Addressing the controversy today on Saturday, the Treasury boss said his journey to one of the country’s most powerful offices was shaped by years of sacrifice, loyalty to ODM, and extensive public service experience in both the party and Parliament.

“I have been ODM chairman for 10 years under Raila Odinga. I have also served as Minority Leader in the National Assembly before becoming the Treasury CS I am today,” Mbadi stated.

In remarks seemingly directed at Winnie, Mbadi rejected attempts to question his leadership credentials, arguing that political experience and service to the people cannot be overlooked.

“You do not have the credentials to advise me on being Treasury CS. First seek an elective position and serve the people, then come and advise me,” he said.

All these was happening as mama Ida Odinga also appeared to take issue with a section of broad-based team which has been invoking Raila’s name in their discussions.
