Opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, widely known as Bobi Wine, has rejected Uganda’s preliminary presidential election results, accusing electoral officials and the state of manipulating the process, as reports emerged that security forces carried out a late-night operation at his residence.

In a statement shared on social media, the National Unity Platform (NUP) president urged supporters to dismiss results announced by Electoral Commission chairperson Simon Byabakama, claiming officials could not account for their source. Kyagulanyi insisted that his party’s agents at the national tally centre had repeatedly demanded verification, without success. He maintained that Ugandans, not state institutions, would ultimately determine the election’s outcome.

“Ignore the fake results being announced by Byabakama. He can’t tell anybody where those results are coming from. Our agents at the tally centre are asking him for the source of these results, and the regime enabler can’t say a thing. The People of Uganda will have the final say on this nonsense,” he shared an update.

Hours later, NUP reported that Kyagulanyi was targeted in an overnight security operation at his Magere home. During a phone interview with local media, his wife, Barbie Kyagulanyi, described a tense scene in which armed officers allegedly disabled security cameras, cut off electricity, and surrounded the property. She said a military helicopter hovered overhead, using floodlights to illuminate the compound, while officers reportedly chained the gates and attempted to force entry.

NUP further alleged that Kyagulanyi’s private security personnel were assaulted without provocation and that security forces erected tents within the compound, suggesting preparations for an extended siege. The party expressed serious concern over Kyagulanyi’s safety and the intentions of the operatives involved.

However, police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke dismissed the abduction claims as false, calling them misleading and intended to portray security agencies as abusive. “These allegations are untrue and unfounded,” he said.

The incident followed separate reports of deadly violence earlier on Friday at the home of MP Muwanga Kivumbi, a close ally of Kyagulanyi. Kivumbi alleged that several people were killed inside his residence while awaiting parliamentary election results. Police denied the claims, stating that officers responded in self-defence after opposition supporters allegedly attacked a police station and tally centre. #BobiWine #UgandaElection #Museveni
