MP Jack Wamboka has dismissed National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula’s threat to sue The Standard over a report alleging that he influenced the appointment of relatives and close associates to government positions, describing the planned legal action as “hogus.”
The Bungoma County legislator maintained that the newspaper’s story was accurate and fact-based, adding that he would be willing to testify in court if the matter proceeds to litigation.
“What was reported by the Standard Group newspaper was factual and I am more than willing to stand in court and help testify over this story if required. Wetang’ula is a biased leader and that is what we have been calling out all along,” he remarked.
Speaking to the media, Wamboka said that the individuals named in the report are widely known to be either members of Wetang’ula’s extended family or his close associates.
He was responding to reports that the Speaker intends to take legal action against the media house, which is associated with Gideon Moi, following publication of the article.
The report alleged that Wetang’ula has primarily used his influence to support the appointment of family members and allies to senior public positions, rather than extending such opportunities more broadly.
