The United Opposition is now said to be on its death bed following unsuccessful attempts to forge a unity ahead of 2027 general election with an aim of dislodging the incumbent William Ruto from the throne.
Word now has it that the huge appetite for resources and power among the United Opposition members is posing a dangerous crack that could see them severe ways, this early.
According to some sources close to the outfit, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua wants to overpower the rest of the members just because he feels he has a huge following from his Mt. Kenya backyard. The Ex-DP, according to a source privy to what is happening behind the scenes, wants to control 50 percent of the next government should they grab power.
The suggestion by DCP’s Party leader to control a huge part of the next administration, has heavily been rejected by Dr. Fred Matiang’i(Jubilee Party) and Eugene Wamalwa(DAP-Kenya) . Word on the street has it that some team members could be planning to cut ties with Gachagua as early as December this year.
The source further reported that Dr. Matiang’i believes this move by Gachagua to grab half of the power will weaken the presidency, besides balcanizing tribes. It must be remembered that President William Ruto, in a past interview, also complained about his former DP’s insatiable appetite for governmet control.
That when Mr. Gachagua was given an opportunity to front names in the Kenya Kwanza government, he picked only men and women close to him and his best attempt was to pick the rest from his Agikuyu tribe.
And on Citizen Tv new time, Yvonne Okwaro who was hosting the ex-DP challenged him to detail the names he gave to Ruto for appointment after the duo took charge of the country from Uhuru Kenyatta. In his response that failed to satisfy the viewers, Gachagua jumped to the defence saying, his role was to serve as Ruto’s principal assistant and that the decision to make appointments remained with the boss.
He, therefore, urged Yvonne to blame the appointing authority.
