Fresh political tensions have emerged within the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) after the party’s deputy leader, Cleophas Malala, was accused of orchestrating divisions within the outfit.

The allegations were raised by Kirinyaga Woman Representative #Njeri Maina, who claimed that Malala has been holding secret political meetings aimed at weakening the party’s influence in the Mt. Kenya region. According to Maina, the meetings were part of a wider strategy intended to split the party and disrupt its growing support base.

Maina alleged that the former Kakamega senator had been engaging leaders behind the scenes in a move that could potentially interfere with the party’s organization and unity in key political strongholds. She warned that such actions risk undermining the party’s efforts to consolidate support ahead of future elections.

“Celophas Malala, I am aware that yesterday, between 8 pm and 10 pm, you met a section of MCAs allied to Governor Anne Waiguru from Kirinyaga County,” Maina wrote.

The accusations come at a sensitive time for the party, which is closely associated with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Since its formation, the party has been working to build a strong political base, particularly in the Mt. Kenya region, where it hopes to emerge as a dominant political force ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Political analysts say internal disputes within emerging parties can significantly weaken their organizational strength and public image if not addressed early.

By the time of publication, Malala had not publicly responded to the claims. However, the allegations have sparked debate among political supporters and observers about the stability of the party’s internal leadership and the direction it intends to take in the coming years. #Malala #DCP
