Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has called on President William Ruto to stop politicising matters surrounding the estate of his late brother, Nderitu Gachagua.

Speaking during an appearance on the Iko Nini podcast, Gachagua addressed concerns over the handling of his brother’s wealth, dismissing claims of mismanagement. He maintained that the distribution process was conducted transparently and in accordance with the law.

According to the former Mathira MP, the estate was handled through legal channels, with lawyers overseeing the process in court. He emphasized that the ruling was based on a will he described as one of the most progressive in Kenya’s history.

“And by the way, Nderitu Gachagua left behind a very strong will, which was the first to be studied at the Kenya School of Law,” he said.

Gachagua explained that the family agreed to sell all assets and distribute the proceeds proportionately, ensuring that each beneficiary received their rightful share. He added that the distribution included extended family members and other dependants, with assets such as the Olive Hotel factored into the process.

He further noted that the late Nderitu Gachagua passed away in 2017, and the matter was conclusively settled years ago under succession law.

The former Deputy President criticized recent attempts to revisit the issue, questioning why some individuals had remained silent for nearly nine years before raising concerns.

Gachagua also took issue with reports that a section of the family had sought intervention from President Ruto, arguing that such disputes fall strictly under legal jurisdiction and not political offices.

The DCP Party leader urged the President to refrain from engaging in the matter, insisting that succession disputes should be handled within the framework of the law rather than through political influence.
