Senior Counsel and former Law Society of Kenya president Nelson Havi has officially joined the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), marking a significant boost for the party as it positions itself ahead of the next general election.
Announcing Havi’s entry on Tuesday, DCP party leader Rigathi Gachagua said the party was deliberately strengthening its ranks with seasoned professionals capable of offering sound leadership in Parliament. Gachagua noted that DCP requires strong legal expertise to effectively execute its mandate in legislation, representation, and oversight.
“I am happy to welcome Nelson #Havi, one of the greatest legal minds in the country, to walk with us in his quest to represent the people of Westlands constituency in the National Assembly,” Gachagua said.
Havi, a well-known constitutional lawyer, has built a national profile through his legal practice and vocal advocacy on governance, rule of law, and constitutionalism. His entry into active politics is expected to reshape the Westlands race, a constituency traditionally viewed as highly competitive and politically influential.
Gachagua further described #DCP as a political home for progressive professionals seeking to translate their expertise into public service. He said the party was focused on attracting leaders with proven competence and integrity to champion citizen-centered governance.
Havi’s move signals DCP’s growing ambition to field high-calibre candidates as it expands its national footprint. #Havi
