A late-night visit to a Kileleshwa apartment has turned into a complex investigation after newly surfaced CCTV footage exposed a troubling sequence of events leading up to the death of a 22-year-old woman, raising more questions than answers for detectives.
The victim, identified as Consolata Githinji, is reported to have fallen from the sixth-floor balcony of the apartment in the early hours of Sunday, April 26. She had reportedly gone to the residence in the company of a 33-year-old man, who is now being treated as a person of interest in the case.
According to investigators, surveillance footage from the building has become a key piece of evidence in reconstructing the final moments before her death. The recordings begin at around 4:11am, showing a security guard conducting routine patrols within the apartment complex shortly before the pair arrived.
At approximately 4:17am, Consolata is seen entering the premises alongside the man. The footage captures a brief moment where she appears to gesture toward the guard, though no direct interaction is recorded.
Moments later, at 4:18am, the same guard is seen assisting the two in accessing a keybox believed to hold the apartment keys. After unlocking it, the pair proceed to the sixth-floor unit.
Investigators have also established that earlier activity had taken place in the same apartment. CCTV shows that between 5:56pm and 3:57am, two women and a man had accessed the unit before the arrival of Consolata and her companion.
At around 4:32am, the footage captures shadows moving near the apartment doorway, suggesting a possible disturbance inside moments before the fatal incident. Two minutes later, the guard is seen entering the apartment, with authorities now trying to determine what prompted his intervention.
He exits at 4:43am and briefly lingers outside before walking away, only to return again at 4:46am. Investigators say this marks the last known moment Consolata was seen alive before the fatal fall.
Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) later arrived at the scene to document evidence and begin forensic analysis.
In his statement, the man claimed he found her standing on a bedroom window moments before she fell. Detectives are now working to verify his account against CCTV footage, witness testimonies, and forensic findings as the investigation continues.
