Homabay Governor Gladys Wanga has broken her silence on growing speculation that she could be positioning herself to deputise President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election, firmly dismissing the claims as unfounded.
Speaking during an interview aired on Friday, December 30, Wanga clarified that her political focus remains firmly in Homabay, where she intends to seek a second term as governor. She emphasized that she is not pursuing any other senior national office beyond her current roles.
“The people of Homabay elected me as their governor, and my desire is to continue serving them if they agree to re-elect me,” Wanga said. “That is my wish, and I am asking the people of Homabay to give me another mandate in 2027.”
The governor also noted that her only additional responsibility at the national level is her position as the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party chairperson, dismissing suggestions that she harbours ambitions for the deputy presidency.
Wanga’s remarks come amid heightened political realignments and early succession debates ahead of the 2027 polls, with several leaders frequently being linked to potential presidential and deputy presidential bids.
By publicly addressing the speculation, Wanga sought to put to rest claims of shifting alliances, reaffirming her commitment to local development and leadership in Homabay County.
