Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba on Monday reaffirmed her support for President William Ruto’s re-election bid, marking a significant political shift after years of a strained relationship with the Head of State.

In video clips shared from State House following a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) National Governing Council meeting held in Nairobi, the vocal MP announced her decision to align with the current administration. Wamuchomba said her move was driven by the need to unlock stalled development projects in her constituency, noting that her priority heading into 2026 would be service delivery rather than political battles.

“Yangu ni system ya rais ni tutam. Kazi bila kelele,” she said, loosely translating to a commitment to work quietly within the President’s system to deliver development.

President Ruto, who chaired the meeting, also addressed Wamuchomba’s past disagreements with his administration, attributing the fallout to infrastructure disputes.

“We had a big problem with Mau Mau Roads. Si ni kweli? And that was the quarrel #Wamuchomba had with me,” President Ruto remarked.

Despite being elected on a #UDA ticket, Wamuchomba has maintained a frosty relationship with the President for nearly five years. However, political analysts suggest her renewed cooperation with Ruto stems from dissatisfaction with the handling of Mt Kenya regional politics by impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Wamuchomba has previously accused Gachagua of intimidating leaders within the region, claims that have resonated with several Mt Kenya politicians. Her sentiments have been echoed by fellow MP George Kiomburu and Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, both of whom have expressed concerns over political intolerance in the region.
