Activist Davis Lichuma has been found after reportedly disappearing for more than three days in what fellow activists described as an abduction.

Lichuma was located on the evening of Sunday, June 28, at the Kenyatta National Hospital, where he was receiving medical treatment.

According to human rights organisation Vocal Africa and fellow activists, Lichuma was in a critical condition when he was found, with claims that he had been tortured and physically assaulted before being abandoned at the hospital.

Human rights activist Hussein Khalid said the development came just hours after campaigners held a press briefing demanding Lichuma’s immediate release and warning of nationwide protests if authorities failed to account for his whereabouts.

“Following our press conference this morning demanding the immediate release of comrade Lichuma or face widespread demonstrations, we have this evening confirmed that he has been found, but in bad shape at KNH. Comrades are now organising to transfer him to a private hospital for specialised treatment,” Khalid said.
