Former Gender Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa has officially resigned from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), ending her association with President William Ruto’s ruling party after months of political uncertainty.
Speaking during a press briefing on Thursday, July 30, Jumwa said the decision followed deep reflection, prayer, and consultations with the people she represents.
“After deep reflection, heartfelt prayer and countless consultations with the people I serve, I have made one of the most difficult decisions of my political life. From today, Aisha #Jumwa Katana is no longer a member of the United Democratic Alliance,” she declared.
Jumwa, who served as Cabinet Secretary for Gender, Culture, the Arts and Heritage, accused President Ruto of abandoning loyal allies despite her unwavering support throughout his political journey.
She claimed she had been sidelined from government and publicly humiliated, recalling an incident where she was allegedly denied entry to State House while Coast leaders met the President.
“I was thrown out of State House when Coast leaders had come to see you. I sent you a message, and you never responded,” she said.
Although she did not reveal her next political destination, Jumwa said her future political decisions would be guided by the people of Kilifi, insisting they should be free to choose their leaders.
Her resignation comes amid growing defections from UDA as several leaders continue to distance themselves from the ruling party ahead of the 2027 General Election. Political observers have also linked Jumwa to a possible bid for the Kilifi governor’s seat in 2027.
