Gor Mahia, AFC Leopards, Tusker Face key Tests as KPL Action Resumes

Kenyan Premier League action returns on Friday with a packed Round Two programme after the opening round of the 2026/27 season was postponed.

Among the biggest names in action are defending champions Gor Mahia, AFC Leopards and Tusker, with all three facing opponents capable of providing an early test in the new campaign.

Gor Mahia travel to face APS Bomet in one of the day’s most closely watched fixtures. K’Ogalo enter the new season as the reigning champions after securing their 22nd league title last season. They will be expected to begin their title defence strongly, although APS Bomet will be looking to make home advantage count.

Gor Mahia have also had a busy period, including their 3-1 defeat to Tusker in the FKF Super Cup in August. The champions will therefore be keen to respond positively as their league campaign gets underway.

AFC Leopards will meanwhile face Kenya Police in another high-profile encounter. The two sides have produced tight contests in recent meetings, including two goalless draws during the 2025/26 campaign. That history could make Friday’s clash another tactical battle, with neither side likely to give much away.

Tusker will host Migori Youth in another match attracting attention. The Brewers arrive with confidence after beating Gor Mahia 3-1 to lift the Super Cup. They will now look to carry that momentum into their league campaign.

Migori Youth, however, should not be underestimated. The promoted side comes into the fixture after a strong run of results in its recent matches and will be hoping to cause an early upset.

With the first round postponed, Friday’s fixtures carry added importance. Gor Mahia, AFC Leopards and Tusker will all be targeting winning starts as the race for the Kenyan league title finally gets underway.
