The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has introduced a new online service allowing Kenyans to access and download their KCPE and KCSE certificates directly through its digital platform.
The move means individuals who sat for the national examinations between 1989 and 2025 can retrieve their certificates online for use in job applications, college and university admissions, and other official purposes without necessarily obtaining the physical document from their former schools.
The development is expected to ease a long-standing challenge faced by many former students whose certificates were withheld by schools over unpaid fees or other clearance issues. Thousands of job seekers and graduates have for years struggled to access the crucial academic documents despite completing their studies.
The new system is also likely to reduce the influence schools have traditionally exercised over the release of examination certificates, particularly in cases where institutions retained the documents due to outstanding balances.
Education stakeholders say the #online access could significantly improve opportunities for Kenyans seeking employment or further education by enabling them to obtain proof of their academic qualifications more conveniently.
