As Kenyans prepare for the Easter holiday, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has launched a nationwide road safety enforcement campaign to protect travelers and reduce accidents.

The four-day crackdown, starting Friday, April 3, seeks to ensure safer journeys amid the expected surge in vehicles on highways and urban roads.

NTSA Director General Nashon Kondiwa said the operation will focus on curbing dangerous driving behaviors and inspecting vehicles for roadworthiness.

“Fellow motorists, as we commemorate this Easter season, I urge every driver and passenger to prioritise safety on our roads,” Kondiwa emphasized.

The agency, in partnership with the National Police Service (NPS), will deploy speed cameras, sobriety checkpoints, and traffic enforcement officers at strategic points nationwide. These measures aim to detect and deter reckless habits such as speeding, drunk driving, and driver fatigue, which remain leading causes of accidents.

Motorists are advised to observe speed limits, avoid alcohol before driving, and take regular breaks during long trips. Non-compliant vehicles, including those with faulty brakes, worn-out tires, or defective lighting, will be impounded immediately. Drivers whose vehicles break down are urged to park safely off the road and use warning triangles to alert other motorists.

Kondiwa stressed that these intensified operations are designed to safeguard lives and ensure that Kenyans can travel safely during the festive period. “Our ultimate goal is to prevent tragedies on our roads and promote responsible driving for everyone,” he said, urging vigilance and cooperation from all road users.

With enforcement set to cover major highways, urban centers, and busy travel corridors, NTSA and NPS aim to make this #Easter a safer one for all.
