Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro has disclosed what he termed as the hidden agenda behind the government’s recently introduced instant traffic fines.

Speaking on Thursday March 12, the legislator claimed the policy, which has been presented as a road safety initiative, is actually designed to benefit a few powerful individuals within government circles.

Ndindi Nyoro argued that the move is less about protecting motorists and more about extracting money from ordinary Kenyans.

“Instant fines are just another patronage scheme to take the little money left from Kenyans,” he stated.

The MP further alleged that the recent directive by President William Ruto instructing Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir to install surveillance cameras along major highways and towns was not a spontaneous decision, but rather a carefully planned move and political stunt.

According to Nyoro, the public order issued by the president was part of a staged process meant to pave the way for lucrative deals tied to the new traffic enforcement system.

“When I saw the president stand up and order the CS to mount cameras on highways in major towns, I quickly knew this is another game to do business. Nothing else. No one is interested in keeping your lives safe on roads. It’s all about making deals,” Nyoro claimed.

He added that shortly after the directive was issued, reports about the introduction of instant traffic fines by the National Transport and Safety Authority(NTSA) began circulating, which he said indicated that the arrangement had already been finalized behind the scenes.

Nyoro maintained that the policy risks turning traffic enforcement into a revenue collection scheme rather than a genuine effort to improve road safety.
