Siaya County boss James Aggrey Orengo has explained his meeting with President William Ruto during the President’s development tour in Siaya, highlighting a major infrastructure project aimed at unlocking the region’s economic potential.

Orengo said he joined the Head of State, other leaders, and residents for the groundbreaking ceremony of the Usenge Pier, describing it as a transformative investment in the county’s blue economy. He noted that the project marks a significant step toward harnessing Lake Victoria’s resources to improve livelihoods and expand economic opportunities.

According to the governor, the construction of the pier is expected to enhance water transport, easing movement of people and goods between Siaya and neighboring counties, as well as facilitating cross-border trade within the East African region. He emphasized that improved connectivity will not only boost local commerce but also attract investment and tourism to the lakeside area.

“Joined President William Ruto, other leaders, and residents of Siaya during the groundbreaking for the construction of Usenge Pier. This is a major infrastructural milestone that will boost our blue economy and help transform the lives of our people.

“It will also improve water transport between Siaya, neighboring counties, and across our borders”.

Orengo added that the project reflects the importance of collaboration between national and county governments in delivering meaningful development to citizens. He expressed optimism that such partnerships would accelerate infrastructure growth and address long-standing challenges facing communities around Lake Victoria.

The meeting between the two leaders comes amid ongoing efforts to prioritize development over political differences, with Orengo reiterating his commitment to initiatives that directly benefit the people of Siaya.
