Pastor Kanyari appears to be running out of patience with the lengthy court processes surrounding the custody of his children. This has become evident through his recent public attacks on his co-parent, Tash, who has been living with the children.
To some extent, Kanyari’s frustration is understandable. As the children’s biological father, he has a legitimate interest in their upbringing and welfare. However, the situation also raises important questions. Why did his late former wife, Betty Bayo, leave with the children after their separation? She did not leave any of the children behind and officially divorced #Kanyari.
One could argue that, at the time, the children were still very young and naturally needed to remain with their mother. If that was the reasoning then, it is also worth noting that they are still minors today. The major difference is that their mother is no longer alive. That reality changes the dynamics, and many would argue that their biological father is now the most appropriate person to take responsibility for raising them, unless a court determines otherwise based on the children’s best interests.
It is perhaps for this reason that Kanyari seems to have exhausted his patience with the legal process. Unlike Tash, he has a ready audience every Sunday in his church, where he has repeatedly used his platform to air his frustrations. Whether one agrees with his approach or not, his public campaign appears intended to influence public opinion and increase pressure on the matter. If it continues, it could eventually shape how the dispute unfolds, although the final decision ultimately rests with the courts.
That said, Kanyari’s church services often come across as more of an entertainment show than a place of spiritual nourishment. His humorous delivery and dramatic presentations frequently resemble a stand-up comedy performance. One could easily attend his church not necessarily for a sermon, but simply to unwind and enjoy the unexpected Churchill Show like-comedy. Whether intentional or not, Kanyari has a natural ability to entertain his audience by simply bringing in his life experiences and anecdotes.
