Detectives have arrested a man suspected of taking part in the torching of a motor vehicle at Githurai Roundabout during the recent fuel-related protests that turned violent.

The suspect, identified as Elisha Karanja Gatwa, was apprehended in Ruiru following investigations that led detectives to his whereabouts. Authorities say the arrest was made after investigators followed critical leads linked to the incident.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspect is currently undergoing processing as inquiries continue. Detectives are also pursuing other individuals believed to have been involved in the attack.

The vehicle was set ablaze amid demonstrations sparked by fuel-related grievances, with the incident forming part of a series of disturbances reported during the protests.

The DCI has reaffirmed its commitment to holding all those responsible accountable, warning that acts of violence, arson, and destruction of property constitute serious criminal offences.

“Those found culpable will be pursued and subjected to the full force of the law,” the agency said.

Investigations remain ongoing as authorities work to identify and apprehend additional suspects linked to the incident.
