A man accused of publishing inflammatory and offensive content on social media has been arrested in Mombasa following an operation by detectives, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has confirmed.
The suspect, identified as David Onyango Elgon, also known online as MC Adek Tatu, was apprehended after authorities linked him to a series of controversial posts that sparked widespread public outrage and attracted significant attention across various social media platforms.
According to the DCI, the posts, which were shared through the suspect’s Facebook account under the name MC Adek Tatu, quickly went viral, prompting concerns over their potential impact on public order, national unity, and peace.
Acting on intelligence reports, detectives launched a manhunt that led them to Queen’s Court in the Utange area of Mombasa County. The suspect was arrested at his residence and taken into custody for processing ahead of his planned court appearance.
In a statement, the DCI cautioned social media users against abusing digital platforms and reminded the public that online activities are subject to the law.
“The digital space is not a lawless jungle. While we enjoy the freedom of expression, publishing or distributing inflammatory posts that incite public outcry and divide us as a nation is a crime,“ the agency said.
The DCI further urged Kenyans to use social media responsibly and report unlawful online activities through its anonymous reporting channels. Investigations into the matter are ongoing as authorities prepare to arraign the suspect in court.
