Environmentalist Truphena Muthoni is seeking a new place in the record books after embracing 1,234 trees on Friday, May 8, in an attempt to surpass the Guinness World Record for the highest number of trees hugged by one person within an hour.

The standing benchmark is 1,123 trees, set by Abubakar Tahiru in Auburn on March 25, 2024. During that challenge, Tahiru reportedly hugged each tree with both arms, maintaining a rapid pace of nearly one tree every three seconds throughout the hour-long effort.

Muthoni’s latest attempt exceeded that mark by 111 trees, giving her a provisional new total pending official verification. The event took place at Jardim Botânico Brasília, where supporters watched as she moved swiftly from one tree to the next.

Speaking after the challenge, the young environmental advocate said she had initially aimed for 1,172 trees but managed to go far beyond her own expectations. If confirmed, the feat would establish a new world record and further spotlight environmental awareness through an unusual but symbolic act of appreciation for nature.
