The death of Emurua Dikirr MP Johanna Ng’eno in a helicopter crash has ignited a storm of grief, suspicion, and political accusations across the country.
Months before his tragic demise, Ng’eno had narrated a chilling ordeal. He claimed he was once picked from his constituency and taken to a police station, where he was held until late at night. Around 10:30 pm, he said, an unknown team arrived, bundled him into a Land Cruiser, tied his hands to the vehicle’s rail, and drove him to a forest.
“There, they asked me if I knew they could kill me,” he recounted in an earlier interview. “I told them if you kill me today, I will be remembered for 200 years – but who will remember you?” According to Ng’eno, after a tense exchange, the men changed their minds, drove him to Nakuru where he recorded a statement, and later placed him in custody.
Following his death, political leaders have traded sharp claims. Richard Onyonka, the Kisii Senator, alleged that the late MP was targeted because he refused to sign off on a disputed mineral-linked land deal in Kilgoris. Mr. Onyonka suggested powerful interests could have wanted him silenced.
“MP Ng’eno was killed because he refused to sign a rare mineral land deal in Kilgoris,” Onyonka shared his side of the story in a church event he attended today.
On the other hand, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua made explosive remarks, alleging that Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and Senator Aaron Cheruiyot were involved in Ng’eno’s death over fierce rivalry for the Kipsigis political kingpin position.
“Johana Ngeno has been my good friend for long and just like myself, he has bee facing alot of persecution from people in government who dont want him to rise to the top of Kipsigis leadership,” Gachagua stated.
None of the accused leaders have been formally linked to the crash by investigators, and authorities have yet to release conclusive findings on the cause of the accident.
As investigations continue, one question lingers in the minds of many Kenyans: was Johanna Ng’eno’s death a tragic accident – or something far more sinister?
