Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has announced a sweeping reshuffle of Regional Commissioners and County Commissioners in changes aimed at strengthening security coordination and improving public service delivery across the country.
In a statement issued on Friday, May 15, Murkomen said the transfers, promotions, and redeployments were intended to enhance the efficiency of national government administration while addressing emerging security and governance challenges in various regions.
Among the major changes, Rhoda Nyaboke Onyancha was moved from the Coast region to Nairobi, while Paul Rotich was transferred from Eastern to the Coast region. Samson Macharia Irungu was redeployed from the Western region to the Office of the President headquarters, as Flora Nkatha Mworoah was recalled from the Nyanza region back to headquarters.
Murkomen noted that the reshuffle was informed by the officers’ experience and expertise, saying the ministry sought to place administrators in areas where they could effectively address local challenges.
The changes also included promotions, with Jacob O. Muganda, Onesmus Musyoki Kyatha, and Allan Machari elevated from county commissioner positions to serve as regional commissioners. Muganda will now head the Eastern region, Musyoki takes charge of Nyanza, while Machari has been deployed to the Western region from the Office of the President headquarters.
Several regional commissioners retained their current stations, including Joshua Muriungi Nkanatha in Central, John Odhiambo Otieno in North Eastern, and Dr Abdi Mohammed Hassan in Rift Valley.
At the county level, Joseph Kibet Boen was transferred from Kiambu to Kilifi, while Stephen Kutwa Sangolo moved from Baringo to Lamu. Other transfers affected counties including Kericho, Samburu, Kakamega, Kisii, Nyamira, and Tana River.
Murkomen said the changes take effect immediately as the government seeks to enhance administration, security management, and coordination of national government functions ahead of the 2027 General Election.
