Detectives from Kenya’s Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested two suspects and recovered a suspected illegal firearm during a targeted operation in Kisumu County.
Acting on intelligence, the officers laid a strategic ambush along the busy Kisumu–Busia Highway, a key transit route in the region. Their operation bore fruit when they intercepted a black Toyota Prado, registration number KCB 411A, carrying two occupants.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a Phantom pistol, a machete concealed in a black sheath, and three mobile phones believed to be linked to criminal activity. The weapon and items were secured as exhibits.
The suspects were identified as Evans Otieno Ongere and Abel Onyango Owuor. They were immediately taken into custody and transported to Maseno Police Station for processing.
Authorities confirmed that the vehicle used by the suspects has also been impounded and will form part of the ongoing investigation. The two are expected to be arraigned in court as detectives continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding the recovered firearm and other items.
The arrest marks a significant step in ongoing efforts by security agencies to crack down on illegal firearms and related criminal networks in the region.
