Drama as Kajiado Residents Heckle Governor Ole Lenku at Ruto Rally

Drama unfolded in Kajiado County on Thursday, September 3, 2026, after a section of residents heckled Governor Joseph Ole Lenku during President William Ruto’s rally in Loitokitok.

Ole Lenku was forced to interrupt his speech as some residents shouted and demanded that he stop speaking. The disruption prompted President Ruto to intervene and appeal to the crowd to allow the governor to complete his remarks.

“Please, please, just let the governor finish his speech, just give him a moment,” Ruto told the residents as the heckling continued.

The governor had barely started addressing the gathering when the interruptions began, with some residents waving their hands and loudly expressing their displeasure.

Lenku had been praising the government’s development agenda in Kajiado, telling the President that residents appreciated projects being implemented in the county.

“Your Excellency the President, today, we as the Kajiado residents are happy because of the development you have brought. Your development agenda, we support it so that Kenya can move forward,” Lenku said before the disruption intensified.

Despite the heckling, Lenku appeared defiant, insisting that the reaction from a small section of residents would not intimidate him.

“The noise of 20 people does not scare us. This Kajiado is ours, and we are the ones to decide Kajiado’s political direction, and we have decided to back you,” he said.

Ruto later took the microphone and urged residents to give the governor an opportunity to finish his address.

The incident briefly overshadowed the President’s rally as the crowd continued expressing dissatisfaction during Lenku’s speech.

During his Kajiado tour, Ruto inspected the Ksh2.2 billion Loitokitok Affordable Housing Project and laid the foundation stone for Ksh220 million Kenya Medical Training College student hostels in Kajiado South Constituency.

The incident comes as Lenku faces an NCIC summons over alleged ethnic incitement and hate speech following remarks made on August 22. He is expected to appear before the commission on September 17, 2026.
