A youth-led civic initiative aimed at boosting voter participation is gaining momentum across the country, with organizers urging young people to take an active role in shaping Kenya’s future through the ballot.
The “Niko Kadi” voter registration drive, founded by Allan Ademba, is targeting thousands of unregistered youth, especially first-time voters, ahead of upcoming electoral processes. The campaign seeks to bridge the gap between young people and democratic participation by making voter registration more accessible and engaging.
Speaking during a recent outreach event, Ademba emphasized the importance of youth voices in governance, noting that a significant portion of Kenya’s population remains underrepresented in electoral processes. He described the initiative as “a movement to awaken civic responsibility among young people and ensure they are not left behind in key national decisions.”
The drive involves grassroots mobilization, digital awareness campaigns, and partnerships with community organizations to reach youth in both urban and rural areas. Volunteers have been deployed to educate potential voters on the registration process, requirements, and the importance of participating in elections.
Organizers say the campaign is also addressing common barriers such as lack of information, apathy, and mistrust in political systems. By using relatable messaging and peer-to-peer engagement, the initiative aims to inspire a new generation of informed and active voters.
With momentum building, the “Niko Kadi” drive is expected to play a crucial role in increasing youth voter turnout and strengthening democratic participation across the country.
