Football Kenya Federation President Hussein Mohamed has been suspended after serious allegations emerged linking him to the mismanagement of Ksh42 million allocated for the African Nations Championship (CHAN), with officials citing the need to protect the integrity of investigations.
The federation’s National Executive Committee (NEC) announced on April 24 that #Hussein must step aside to pave the way for a full probe into claims of financial impropriety, including suspected misuse of funds and possible statutory breaches tied to federation resources.
According to the NEC, the suspension is not a final verdict but a precautionary move to ensure transparency and prevent any potential interference with ongoing investigations by both local and international football bodies.
The decision also affected NEC member Abdullahi Yussuf Ibrahim and Acting CEO Dennis Gicheru, who were similarly asked to step aside as scrutiny widens around the federation’s financial dealings.
As part of the measures, the NEC ordered the freezing of #FKF bank accounts linked to Hussein in his official capacity and called for an independent forensic audit to trace how funds from stakeholders such as CAF, FIFA, and the Ministry of Sports were utilized.
In the interim, Deputy President Macdonald Mariga has taken over as acting FKF President pending the outcome of the investigations.
