James Orengo has declared that the Linda Mwananchi movement is not part of the recently formed United Opposition, insisting that the new political formation will chart its own independent path.

Speaking during an interview with Jeff Koinange, the Siaya County governor dismissed suggestions that Linda Mwananchi was seeking to join the opposition coalition.

When asked whether the movement would eventually merge with the United Opposition, Orengo turned the question around and suggested the reverse could happen instead.

“It should be the other way round. The United Opposition can also join Linda Mwananchi. What we are building is a strong unbreakable wave and we are here to prove that this is possible,” Orengo said.

His remarks are likely to spark fresh debate within Kenya’s opposition ranks, where various leaders have been exploring alliances ahead of the next political cycle.

Orengo maintained that Linda Mwananchi is not being formed as a symbolic or short-term political vehicle, but as a serious national movement aimed at transforming governance and leadership in the country.

According to the governor, the initiative seeks to build a strong and vibrant politics of change that places citizens at the centre of decision-making.

He added that the movement’s broader vision is to inspire a new political and governance wave that Kenyans from all walks of life can be proud of.

The outspoken governor, known for his strong stance on constitutionalism and democratic reforms, has in recent months signalled growing interest in reshaping the country’s opposition politics.

His latest comments may also raise questions about the unity and direction of anti-government forces, especially as different camps continue to position themselves for future contests.
